How to use Wood Cutting Axe in Tears of the Kingdom

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you can chop down trees with a Wood Cutting Axe. You can use other shard weapons, like swords, to chop trees down, but the Wood Cutting Axe is the best weapon for the job. In this guide, I’ll instruct you how to get a Wood Cutting Axe in Tears of the Kingdom, how to use it, and why you’ll want to use this item.

Note: Cutting down trees is a great way to get ingredients to cook food.

Getting a Wood Cutting Axe is easy in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — it's only a matter of time. After you beat the Ukouh Shrine, you’ll cross over to the next plateau and see Rauru looking at a Zonai machine chopping a tree down. Next to this Zonai, you’ll see a Wood Cutting Axe buried in a tree stump.

This is where you’ll get a Wood Cutting Axe. You can use it as a weapon to fight enemies or use it to chop down trees.

To use the Wood Cutting Axe, simply press right on the D-Pad, cycle over to the Wood Cutting Axe, and select it. With the Wood Cutting Axe equipped, you can use it by pressing Y.

If you want to chop a tree down, simply face in the direction you want the tree trunk to fall and hit the tree three times. The trunk will fall as well as some leaves and possibly fruits and nuts. If you hit a fallen tree with the Wood Cutting Axe, you’ll get wood.

Finding and using the Wood Cutting Axe is all well and good, but why do you need the Wood Cutting Axe in Tears of the Kingdom? The answer to that question is so you can get wood to create fires, but more importantly, to use the tree trunk in creative ways.
